Route Notes This team's Sherpas fixed small bolts on the Lhotse Face, as did Sherpas with expeditions led by Russell Brice and Damian Benegas. This is probably the first time the South Col route had been bolted. C3 was occupied by all six members on 27 April. They went down to C2 on the 28th and BC on the 29th to rest. They planned to go for the summit from BC on 7 May, but the window of favourable weather was too short a time -- it was too cold and too windy -- for this to succeed. Then came three days of snowfall. Some members went down to Namche Bazar during this period. Finally they could go for the top. All members and five Sherpas started from BC on 17 May and went to C2; on the 18th they were back in C3; on the 19th they climbed to C4. They left C4 that night at 11 o'clock and were on the summit the morning of 20th May. The first of them to reach the top were Diz, Reuss and Namgyal at 5:10 am. Rudolf and Kusang Tenzing were there at 6:00 am, followed by Klepeisz, Kobler, Wehrli, Pemba Norbu, Nima Tendu and Wangchu at 7:00 am. All the summiters descended to C2 to sleep, except Rudolf, who was too tired to go that far and stopped in C3. All the Sherpas stayed in C4, except Namgyal, who went down with Reuss to C2. All members were in BC on the 21st and all Sherpas on the 22nd. Oxygen was used by all members from C3 to the summit; most of them stopped using it when they descended to C4. The Sherpas used it from C4 to the top to C4. Sherpas: Kusang Tenzing, 16/5/86, Ghunsa, Lelep-9, Taplejung, Everest 21/5/08 Namgyal, 11/8/71, Gyabla, Lelep-8, Taplejung, Everest X7 Nima Tendu, 31/8/73, Pangboche, Khumbu, Everest X2 Pemba Norbu, 6/12/78 (21/8/2035), Lelep-9, Taplejung, Everest X1, Cho Oyu X1 Wangchu, 2/2/78, Taksindu-3, Solu, Everest X2 Kari Kobler - Dec 2009 (by phone to Eberhard Jurgalski) Kari reconfirmed that Mintenjen (aka Mingma) and Dendi (Taksindu) summited, but Nima Tendu did not, because he does not speak English well enough in Kari's opinion, so Kari remembers well.
