Route Notes BC at Khumbu Glacier C1 above Khumbu Icefall C2 in Western Cwm C3 on Lhotse West Face C4 at South Col. Independent Everest, Spring 2008 - Ms Kalpana Dash Dash, Lhakpa Rangdu, Kusang Tenjing and Namgya Sherpa left C4 at 9 pm on 20 May. The team reached summit at 12 noon and spent about 20 minutes on the summit. The team descended to C4 at 9 pm spent a night there. On 22 May to C2 and spent two nights there. On 24 May descended to BC. The weather on the summit day was very good. But Ms. Dash was a very slow climber. Lhakpa Rangdu Sherpa, who summited with Ms Dash, said that her climbing ability was about 20 percent. He said in normal conditions a slow climber requires between 6-7 4-liter oxygen cylinders to start from C3 to summit and C3, and also used in C2 for sleeping. As per the schedule the team was supposed to leave BC on 25 May and accordingly packed up the camp. In the morning of 25 May Ms Dash complained about stomach ache and told Lhakpa Rangdu that she cannot walk. Since the camp was already packed up she was taken to a tent of big Indian expedition (Himalayan Expedition Inc) and asked Kathmandu to send a helicopter for her. On 26 May Ms Dash was carried to Gorak Shep in a basket (doko) stretcher by Sherpas. She was evacuated from Gorak Shep in the morning of 27 May and admitted to Norvic. Gautam of Arun Treks said that Ms Dash had ulcer problem. She went to airport straight from Norvic (hospital) on 6 June for Delhi. Lhakpa Rangdu summited Everest in Daura Saruwal to mark the occasion of 55th anniversary of the ascent on Everest. Fixed rope: 700m contributed. Namgya summited 3:26 pm on 20 May with rope fixing Sherpa Namgyal (McGuinness team), descended to C4 and went again to summit with Ms Dash, Lhakpa Rangdu and Kusang Tenzing on 21 May.
