Route Notes C4 at South Col High point at Balcony. Everest Spring 2008 - Sergio Martini Martini left C4 at about 10:30 pm of 24 May. He reached below the Balcony at about 8 am of 25th. He waited there for about an hour for the Sherpa who is carrying oxygen cylinder for Martini to change at Balcony and also climbing with Roberto Manni, another Italian climber. They were very slow. Martini said while waiting for the Sherpas he slept there beside a dead body. After changing the oxygen cyclinder he continued his climb. When he got to 8500m started very strong wind suddenly. Martini waited for there for an hour hoping that the wind will recede but it did not. Then he decided to turn around and came to C4 at about 11 am and slept there. Next day he descended to C2. A Sherpa promised Martini that he will bring down Martini's C3 tent and goods to BC but the Sherpa went down to BC without it. Martini had to go for C3 to clear it and carry down to BC. Martini wanted to climb without supplementary oxygen but he said that it was very difficult for him to do everything alone on the mountain and decided to use oxygen for his climb. Martini returned to Kathmandu on 1 June and will leave on 6 June.
