Route Notes Willie Benegas told Miss Hawley that Martini's Sherpa Dawa had ice fall on his head at the bottom of Lhotse Face. Dawa's body was brought to BC by lots of Sherpas and Martini himself was working with other Sherpas. Philip Ling (member of Lhotse team of Dan Mazur) in his email wrote that when Martini's first Sherpa died, Thamserku refused to give him another one. Martini came to Dan Mazur for help. Mazur told him that his Sherpas would carry some gear up the mountain for Martini and De Stefani teams. Mr Sharma of Everest Parivar said that the Mazur Sherpas did carry some loads to C2, but no Sherpas were provided to Martini as they (Everest Parivar) themselves were lacking Sherpas because two of their climbing Sherpas got sick and left BC. Benegas told Miss Hawley that Martini went above C4 and returned. Martini returned to Kathmandu probably on 30 May. Jeevan met Martini at his hotel on 31 May at about 7:15 am. But he refused to talk to him about his climbing. Jeevan talked to Parajuli of Thamserku, but he did not know anything about a substitute Sherpa or of Martini's climbing. Parajuli said he met Martini after his return from mountain for a very short time and did not talk about climbing. Martini on Everest from Willie Benegas - 29 May 2007 Sergio Martini arrived at BC with Fausto De Stefani, who went to Lhotse, a week after Benegas arrived at BC, which was the 7th of April. Martini climbed climbed without oxygen. At the start of his climb, he had one Sherpa with him, Dawa, who was killed by ice falling on his head at the bottom of the Lhotse Face. Martini was "devastated" by this fatal accident. The body was brought down to BC; Martini went back up again without a Sherpa. He climbed above C4, but not to the summit. He wants to come to Everest via the South Col again in 2008. Sherpa: Dawa Sherpa, 19/6/66 (5/3/2033), Kanku-9, Solukhumbu Email to Jeevan from Philip Ling - 22 July 2007 When his first Sherpa died at the base of the Lhotse Face, Thamserku Trekking refused to give him another one. Sergio, Fausto and Roberto were very unhappy with Thamserku Trekking. Sergio came to our dining tent one day and Dan Mazur told him our Sherpas would carry some gear up the mountain for them. But our Sherpas did not go with Sergio on his summit day. I don't know what happened after that, or even if Sergio had a Sherpa above C3. I do know that Roberto Manni summited Lhotse, because he was on the summit at the same time with a member of my team.
Accidents Martini's Sherpa Dawa died on 26 April due to ice falling on his head at the base of Lhotse Face
