Route Notes Summit party left C4 for top at 10:00 pm 16 May; all to top 7:10 to 7:30 am of 17th and back to C4 11:30 am. 18 May to C2 on 18 May. BC 19 May. Perfect weather. Non-summiting members: Bates went very slightly above BC, said he was sick, left expedition 20 April. Doble went to C3 on 28 April and down to BC with others, was exhausted. Peter then told him he could not go higher because he would push himself beyond his strength. Larsen went to C4 on a Lhotse permit. Rutland to C2 on 24 April, had no motivation to go higher.
