Route Notes BC at Khumbu Glacier C1 above Khumbu Glacier C2 in Western Cwm C3 on Lhotse West Face C4 at South Col. Bem, Nima Nurbu Sherpa and Pemba Tenjin Sherpa left C4 at 10:30 pm on 17 May, reached summit at 6:45 am on 18 May, stayed on summit about 30 minutes, descended to C2 at 6 pm. Next day to BC. Elias was at C2 on 14 May. He had to go with Dawa Sherpa down to BC on 17 because Dawa had severe toothache. Svaricek also was at C2 on 14 May, got stomach problem and went down to BC on 17. Zboja, Bem, Nima Nurbu and Pemba Tenjin were at C3 on 16 May. During the night of 16 there was snowfall. He was awake and clearing snow accumulated over their tent. In the morning Zboja decided to go down to C2 to coordinate with the two members. Elias and Svaricek with Bem who continued his climb to South Col. The team returned to Kathmandu on 24 May. Bem will leave on 27 and rest of the members on 3 June. The Zboja team originally planned to go to north side of Everest. Accordingly Windhorse Trekking applied for permission but TMA refused permission saying that the mountain was full. Bem then contacted the Prague Foreign Ministry seeking help of the Chinese Embassy in Prague for permission and also the Czech Embassy in Beijing but to no avail. Then the team approached Monterosa which indeed got the permission as well as visas for the four-member Czech and Slovak team in one day. The team left Kathmandu for Tibet on 12 April, but the border authority did not allow them to enter into Tibet. Then they returned to Kathmandu and got permission for south side of Everest and took off to Pheriche in a helicopter. According to Zboja, the reason for TMA refusal was: (1) Bem had put an Tibetan flag in front of the Chinese Embassy in Prague, (2) Bem met with the Dalai Lama several times. Bem's inclination to Buddhism and support for Tibetans caused all the trouble in the process of trying to go to north side of Everest.
