Route Notes Summit team left C3 at midnight. They bumped into Nives Meroi and Romano at 2nd Step; they were on their way down. Nadia Tiraboschi and Borlini were quicker than Maurizio so they pushed on and made it to the summit at 1 pm. They saw Maurizio between 2nd and 3rd Step on the way down. Maurizio summited at around 2:30 pm. The last time Nadia Tiraboschi saw Maurizio was at about 8800m. She looked up on their descent and saw Maurizio coming down. They descended to C3 where they spent 3 nights to look for Maurizio. They could not find him so they descended to ABC on 20 May. Santoro reached 7900m on 14 May. He stayed one night and descended to ABC on 15 May. He did feel slight altitude sickness. He was also upset to see the body of the Japanese climber at 7300m. Ivan Tiraboschi reached 6900m on 15 May. He turned back and descended to ABC the same day as he was feeling exhausted. Santoro and Tiraboschi left BC on 19 May. On 17 May Epis got to just before 2nd Step. He had lost one of his gloves just after the 1st step when he was trying to adjust his crampon. He had one spare glove in his rucksack but it was for the wrong hand. He tried to carry on but it was impossible with one glove and he was feeling increasingly unwell. Weather was also getting worse, so at 3 pm he turned back. He descended to C3 and slept in the first tent he saw (it was a deposit tent). He did not eat nor drink or sleep with oxygen. On the next morning he went to his tent. He was feeling very weak. When he started his descent to C2 at about 7:00 am, he tried to do so without oxygen and crampons. A Sherpa and deputy Leader from Abramov's team helped him and gave him Dexamethasone as Epis was very uncoordinated. He was helped down all the way to ABC. They left at 8:30 am and reached ABC at about 7:30 pm. Epis left BC on 21 May.
Accidents Maurizio disappeared at about 8800m; Epis edema
