Route Notes The expedition divided into two summit parties. In the first one were Guerin-Marthe, Novak, Urban, Nima Tenzing, Mingma Gyalze, and Ngima. They left C3 at 11:00 pm (NST) on 18 May for the top. Nowak turned back at 8500m at about 5:00 am because one foot was freezing and he was tired; he descended to C1. His Sherpa, Nima Tenzing, went ahead of him and got to ABC that day. Urban reached the summit at 8:00 am on the 19th; his Sherpa, Ngima, was not in good health and was very slow; at 8700m, Urban took his skis from Ngima and went to the top by himself (Ngima summited after him, according to sirdar Nawang Dorje and Ngima himself). Urban saw it was impossible to ski from the summit, so he then "walked" down to the top of the Great Couloir, put on his skis and tried to make a ski descent from there. He skied three or four turns (50 meters down), then stopped because of exposed rocks and avalanching. He climbed up to Ngima on the normal route and down this route; Ngima stopped in C3 while Urban continued descending the same day to ABC, skiing down from C2 to C1. Guerin-Marthe summited at about 10:30 am on the 19th and descended to C3 at 5:30 pm, moving slowly because he was very tired. He was accompanied to the top by Mingma Gyalje. In the second summit party were Bataillou, Lugrin, Rodriguez, Nima Gyalzen and Dawa Gyalje. Rodriguez got to only 7800m on the 19th, had trouble with his oxygen mask and went down to ABC the same day. Lugrin reached C3 but went no higher and descended from there to ABC with Bataillou on the 20th. Bataillou, Nima Gyalzen and Dawa Gyalje (who was Lugrin's Sherpa) left C3 for the top at 9:40 pm on the 19th, summited at 4:40 am on the 20th and descended to ABC at 6:00 pm that day. Bataillou said "the weather was so nice, the snow was so nice, I was feeling good so I go fast." He was the first person to reach the summit on the 20th (others came up from the south side about ten minutes later) and he waited at the top for about an hour for the sun to rise. Bubendorfer was not a skiing climber; he originally wanted to climb the North Face via the Japanese and Hornbein Couloirs, but there was too much snow there. His next idea was to climb a new line directly from ABC to somewhat above C1, going up an unclimbed couloir and not touching the North Col, and then join the normal route. He made his attempt with Nima Nuru on 14 May, but they turned back at just 6700m because of avalanching. Sirdar Nawang Dorje stayed at ABC for most of the climb, but he went once to C2 with Lugrin. Oxygen: Members used it in C2 to their high points and down to C2 or C1. Sherpas from C2 to high points to C3. Sherpas: Dawa Gyalje, 14/3/79 (1/12/2035), Beding, Everest X2 Mingma Gyalje, 14/4/86 (1/1/2043), Beding, 1st 8000er Nawang Dorje (sirdar), 27/4/65, Beding, Everest X2, Cho Oyu X3 Ngima Sherpa, 23/5/74 (10/2/2031), Khanding, Gorakhani-4, Solu, Everest 22/5/05 Nima Tenzing/Tenji, 24/8/80, Beding, Everest X3, Cho Oyu X2, Manaslu X1, K2 in 2005 Nima Gyalzen, 18/5/76 (5/5/2033), Beding, Everest X5, Cho Oyu X1, Manaslu X1 Nima Nuru, 35-36 years old, Chaurikharka, no 8000ers
