Route Notes First summit party of Van der Velde and Ngima Nuru left C3 at 9:00 pm (NST) on 15 May and reached summit at 5:00 am on 16 May. They were the first summiters of the 16th. They went all the way down to ABC that day, and arrived at ABC at 6:00 pm. Second summit party consisted of Muhl with Lhakpa Nurbu and Patterson with sirdar Lhakpa Rangdu. They left C3 at 9:30 pm on the 22nd; Muhl and Lhakpa Nuru were on the summit at 6:00 am of the 23rd, and Patterson and Lhakpa Rangdu joined them 20 minutes later. Members descended to C2 and Sherpas to ABC. John Brand went just above the North Col [on 20 May] but was not well, had stomach problem that persisted. He left expedition on 23 May. Oxygen: By first summit party: Van der Velde from C1 all the way to the summit and down to bottom of North Col at about 6600m; Ngima Nuru used it from C3 to summit to C3. By second summit party: same pattern - members from C1 to top to 6600m; Sherpas from C3 to top to C3. Sherpa summiters: Lhakpa Nuru Sherpa, 22/9/80, Thami, Everest 15/5 and 24/5/06 Lhakpa Rangdu Sherpa, 18/11/67, Sotang, Solu, Cho Oyu X3, Everest X2 Ngima Nuru Sherpa, 6/11/81 (21/7/2038), Tesho, Everest X6, Cho Oyu X1 It was Lhakpa Rangdu who helped to bring Kazakhstani climber Pivtsov (Zhumayev's teammate), descending from C2 to ABC and who put him on oxygen (Namgyal of Chessell's expedition helped also).
