| Route Notes | First Filipino All Women Everest Expedition 2007 Mrs Belarmino, Mrs Dayondon, Miss Wenceslao, Pemba Chhoti, Lhakpa Gyalzen, Pasang Nuru and Ang Phurba Sherpa left C3 at 9 pm (NST) on 15 May. Wenceslao with Pemba Chhoti reached summit at 6:10 am on 16 May; Dayondon with Lhakpa Gyalzen at 6:20 am; Belarmino, Pasang Nuru and Ang Phurba reached at 9 am. Wenceslao, Pemba Chhoti, Dayondon and Lakpa Gyaljen stayed on summit almost an hour. There were many people on summit, may be 20-30. Then the team started descending to South Col where they reached at about 11 am. South Col Sherpa Pema Nuru was there to meet them. Belarmino, Pasang Nuru and Ang Phurba stayed on summit about 30 minutes. Ang Phurba descended to north side and Belarmino and Pasang Nuru to South Col where they reached at 4 pm. All the team and Sherpas slept at South Col. On 17 May the team descended to C2 and to BC on 18 May at 4:30 pm. Leader Valdez and Dr. Esguerra left CBC on 17 and arrived Kodari on 18 May and took helicopter to Khumbu BC where they reached at 1 pm. The flight was delayed for long time due to poor visibility. The expedition left Everest BC on 19th and returned to Kathmandu on 22 May. The expedition will leave Kathmandu on 29 May. Oxygene: Members used oxygen from C1 (north side) to summit to C2 (south side) Sherpas used C3 (north side) to summit to C4 (South Col) Ang Phurba used oxygen from C3 to summit to C3 (north side) Records: First Filipino women to summit Everest, first women summiteers from Asean. The Filipinos are the first women to traverse Everest from north side to south side. Accidents: Member Wenceslao suffered from moderate AMS (PE) on 20 April in ABC. She was put in Gamov bag. She was given a high dose of medicine to stop her vomiting and also given little oxygen. She recovered on 22 April. On 23 she got same symptoms again (vomiting); she could not take medicine due to vomit then she was sent to CBC. She recovered after few days. Fu Dorji climbed up to C3 on 15 May; he suffered from snow blindness and went down to ABC. Traverse fee: On 18 April, CTMA informed expedition leader Valdez that the expedition has to pay additional fee of $3000 each. Valdez said he went to see CTMA authority seeking clarification about the new fee. He was told by CTMA Vice Secretary General that the new fee was decided in Beijing lately and it is applicable for each climber who wants to traverse. North side team: Belarmino, Dayondon, Esguerra, Valdez and Wenceslao. Sherpas: Lhakpa Gyalzen, 20-7-74, Paiya, Jubing Everest X6 (was with Filipino Everest expedition from south side in 2006), climbed Baruntse in 2005 Oct Pemba Chhoti, 27-1-81, Rolwaling, Gaurishankar-1 Everest X4, Ama Dablam X4 and Kongde in 2002 with Japanese expedition Ang Phurba, 26-08-67, Chaplung, Chaurikharka-3 Summited Everest north side in 2006 with Italian expedition, Cho Oyu X4, Bhrikuti in 2000, Putha Hiunchuli in 1996 and 2000 Phu Dorje, 7/12/75, Phortse, Everest X1, Cho Oyu X1 Pasang Nuru, (17/5/74) Summited with Filipino Everest Expedition from south side in 2006 Mr Fortes and his team arrived in Kathmandu April 20, 2007 and departed Kathmandu for Lukla on April 26, 2007 and trekked to arriving at Everest BC on May 5. Non-summiting members: Esguerra and Valdez - ABC (north side) only Emata, Fortes and Jamili - BC (south side) only Email from Arturo Valdez - 12 July 2007 We paid to CTMA US$3000 as additional traverse fee per climber/member. This on top of the first US$11,500 per climber/member traverse fee the CTMA charged us: plus US$17,750 per climber/member climbing fee charged us by Thamserku. The Sherpas were not charged traverse fees, however. The north side support members were me, Pastour Emata, Doc Ted Esguerra, Vince Rodgiguez and Sha Faminialgao. South side BC support team: Leo Oracion, Pee Wenceslao, Dr. Jodell Coates, Nurse Ralph Pilapil and Larry Honoredez. Emata, John fortes (co-expedition leader-joined later, Jamili and Pema Nuru Sherpa from Paiya, Jubing-7. Mr Fortes and his team arrived in Kathmandu April 20, 2007 and departed Kathmandu for Lukla on April 26, 2007 and trekked to arriving at EBC on May 5. Pemba Nuru went up to C4 South Col on May 15th, waited for and climbed down with 3 Filipinas and 3 Sherpas to C2 on May 17th, then arrived at EvBC around 3 pm of May 18. |
