Route Notes Translated notes from various Chinese web sites: Climbers from the 2006 China Afterhours Expedition to Qomolungma & First Mongolian Women's Expedition led by Nima Tsering dispute the claimed summit by Ahu on May 14, 2006. Because Ahu was Chinese and was attempting to summit on the same day as his own team, Nima Tsering was concerned about Ahu's climbing and tracked his progress up the mountain by radio contact with other climbers from ABC at 6500m. Ngawang Norbu and Nima's team left their high camp (8300m) at 2:00 (CST) in the early morning hours. Ngawang said that they passed Ahu and his assistant Laba at the First Step (8500m). Ngawang and his team summited around 11:00 (CST). On their descent at 14:30, Ngawang, Phurbu Dhondup, and Tashi Tsering encountered Ahu at 8700m below the Third Step. Laba was no longer with him. Ahu seemed very weak and was out of oxygen. They told him that it was too late to continue to the summit and that he should turn down. But Ahu did not listen to them. Then they continued their descent downward to their high camp and reached it at 19:00. A few days later Ahu claimed that he summited at 16:00 on 14 May and returned to the 7790m camp at 18:00, bypassing the 8300m camp and therefore not seen by the members of Nima's team. Nima's guides state that it was impossible for Ahu to summit at 16:00 and return to 7790m at 18:00, while their team summited at 11:00 and returned to 8300m at 19:00. Ahu said that he did not have any summit photos because Laba was carrying the pack with the cameras and camcorders and Laba did not summit with him.
