| Route Notes | C2 on ledge about 1 hour below C3. Astori left C2 at midnight, Piantoni left at 2 am (Nepali time). The reason for Piantoni to leave later was that he climbed without oxygen and did not want to climb in the cold for too long. He caught up with Astori at about 8500m and they carried on together. They were on the summit on their own and stayed on the summit for 40 minutes. They descended to ABC where they arrived at 5 pm (Piantoni) and 9 pm (Astori). They had a perfect summit day, fantastic views. Piantoni had no problems climbing without oxygen. He never lost his coordination and the fact that he was quicker than Astori, who climbed with oxygen, shows that. |
