Route Notes Tharumalingam and Nawang Tenzing left C3 (8200m) about 21:30 hours NST of May 14 and reached summit between 14:00-14:30 hours of 15th, stayed on summit less than 5 minutes. They were the last ones to reach summit on that day. Nawang said that they had to wait for 2 hours at Second Step while ascending. On the summit clouds were down, visibility was very poor, the wind was strong. Tharumalingam tried to photograph but his camera did not work. Nawang took out the camera battery and put in his pocket. While descending Nawang tired to take photographs at close to mushroom rock and the camera battery worked. Then Tharumalingam and Nawang descended to their top camp (8200m) where they reached between 18:00-18:30 hours. On May 16 reached ABC and on 17th morning left for CBC while Nawang went back to North Col to pick up stuff from their camp. Tharumalingam left CBC on May 18 and arrived Kathmandu on 19th evening. He stayed one night at Hotel Norbulinka and rest of the days with one staff members of the Malaysian Embassy. He left Kathmandu on May 25. Tharumalingam in his email said that he realized about the frostbite at the summit when he took out the mitten. The numb feeling started after the Second Step. Tharumalingam, Sharp and Nawang Tenzing reached together at ABC. Due to weather condition Tharumalingam and Nawag Tenzing stayed at ABC. But Sharp continued his ascend. Tharumalingam writes about Sharp who was a day ahead of Tharumalingam going towards summit. But, he does not know if Sharp had summited. Tharumalingam and Nawang Tenzing met Sharp on 15th morning at around 8500m on their ascent and the last one to see Sharp on their descent. Nawang Tenzing said while going up he saw Sharp sitting beside another dead body and looking something in his bag. At that time Nawang Tenzing did not realize that it was Sharp. Nawang Tenzing said on their descent Sharp was already dead. Both, Tharumalingam and Nawang Tenzing have no idea about the high camps of Sharp. Tharmalingam in his email (Aug 4, 2006) said that it is difficult to say if Sharp reached the summit or not. He said that when he saw him (Sharp), he was still alive and could not communicate or not responding. Tharumalingam further added that "He (Sharp) was a detailed person so I believe he reached the summit on 14th."
