Route Notes Summit team left C3 at 10:30 pm on 16 May. The weather was calm and clear [when they summited at 12:00.] Near the mushroom rock at about 8600m, Jacques on the descent collapsed due to exhaustion. De Bare, Pemba and Pasang Sona tried to drag him down and talk him into moving for about 6-1/2 hours, but to no avail. They left him at about 6 pm and went back to C3 and stayed the night there. Caroline who had reached C3 on 16 May, had already descended to C1 on 17 May. On 18 May she went to ABC and remaining summit team descended to C1. De Bare informed Caroline via radio about her husband's death on 18 May in the afternoon. When she found out she tried to find people to go back up to check on her husband. But could not find anybody. Two Sherpas, one from Dan Mazur's team, told her that they saw her husband and that he was definitely dead. She then asked a member of the Everest Max Expedition leader (Dominic Faulkner) to bring down some personal things for her. Andrew Sutherland, the expedition doctor of the Everest Max team, brought down some personal things on 21 May. Oxygen: De Bare and J. Letrange from C2 to top, De Bare to C4. Sherpas from C3 to top to C3. Sherpa summiters: Pasang Sona, aka Ang Sona, 21/7/77, Thami Og, Everest X4, Cho Oyu X1, Apa's son Kunga, 19/4/61, Rolwaling, Cho Oyu X4 Pemba Tenjin, 2/2/1976 (19/10/2032), Phurte, Namche-4
