Route Notes 1st summit party left C3 at 5:00 am (Indian time) 8th and all on top 8:05 (8:20 NST) to 11:00 am (Indian time): returned to C3 2:30 pm (NST) together, then earlier climbers having waited on top for last two; 2 members and their two Sherpas to C2 to sleep, Bhanoo and 1 Sherpa to C1 to sleep and all to ABC 19th. 19th May summit party left C2 11:15 pm (with Italians) on 18th and on top 8:00 (8:15 NST) and 11:30 am IST (Dam with 2 Sherpas Cheddar and Ang Tashi); returned to C3 2:00 pm to Dam at 8:30 pm, (Dam alone, having stopped to look after Korean leader, Baek Joon-Ha, who had spent night out and dieing gave him food, water, his oxygen and extra jacket to put over him, Baek died in Dam's arm; this was just above 2nd Step). Dam had told his 2 Sherpas Cheddar and Ang Tashi who were on Everest for first time very tired to go on down, so without his oxygen and alone Dam was slow to get to C3. Dam and his 2 Sherpas to C2 to sleep while other member Kankan and Tenzing to C2 to sleep. All to ABC on 20th. Oxygen: All summit party members in C2, to C3, in C3, to top to C2, except Dam who gave his oxygen to Korean leader Baek as mentioned above; all summit party Sherpas from C3 to top to C3. Furba Tundu Sherpa, Beding, 1975-76, stayed on the mountain after Josef Einwaller left and joined with Sherpa friends on Indian Navy expedition led by Satyabrata Dam and summited with them on 18 May.
