| Route Notes | BC at Khumbu Glacier C1 at usual campsite C2 at usual campsite C3 at little lower than other camps C4 at South Col. May 15 arriveed C4 about 13:00 hours. There was high wind till 19:00-19:30 hours. Started all three from C4 at 21:30 hours, summit at 06:00 hours of May 16, stayed one hour and 15 minutes on summit. Clear weather-no wind. Took off oxygen, hand gloves. "It was wonderful." After a while there were one Sherpa and one Greek came over. The pictures on laptop shown to me were beautiful. Then came two Sherpas and a British or American. Both descended to C2 at 16:30 hours. Next day to BC. Both members met their Sherpa Lila at South Summit while descending, Lila stayed in C4. He was very exhausted. First Swiss team to summit of the season. Gschwendtner, born in Austria, now is citizen of Austria and Switzerland, he lives in Switzerland. They wish to know the number of people from Switzerland and Austria who summited Everest from South and North. The expedition probably leave the country on May 24. |
