| Route Notes | BC at Khumbu Glacier C1 at usual campsite C2 at usual campsite C3 at usual campsite C4 at South Col. Boileau, Cartier, Masterson, Delgado, Espinoza, Ochoa Reyes and five Sherpas left South Col at 9:30 pm of May 15. Summit by Boileau at 7:30 am with Namgyal, Espinoza at 10:30 am, Ochoa Reyes at 11:00 am, Ang Kami at 11:15. Stayed at summit: Boileau and Namgyal for one hour, Ochoa Reyes for 40 minutes and Ang Kami for 15 minutes. Discovery team members were already on summit; while on summit Greek and Sherpas came up. Weather was perfect. Boileau reached South Col at 12 noon, Ochoa Reyes at 5 pm. Other members: Cartier up to 8400m, felt exhausted, short breath then went down to South Col with Da Nima. Then to C2 with Pasang. Masterson reached without oxygen at 8750m, got loose crampon, felt dizzy put on oxygen back to South Col on 16th. Masterson was assisted back to the South Col by Delgado, Hector Ponce de Leon and Andrew Lock where he was given medical oxygen and other medication. Gomez Pietrini suffered high altitude retinal hemorrhage on April 20th while in C3, went down to BC on 22nd. The expedition team - 5 members returned to KTM on 22. Leaving for Chitwan on 24. They plan to return KTM on 26 and leave Nepal on 27th. Lhotse Source (On Arrival form for Delgado & Ochoa Reyes) - 22 March 2004 First summit bids for both summits planned from C3 in late April; if those fail, then form C4 in early May. Kili Sherpa, of Mountain Madness Treks who was at Base Camp with the Canadian expedition led by Ben Webster, said in Kathmandu on 10 June 2004 that Delgado's team made no attempt to reach Lhotse's summit. |
