Route Notes Arrived BC 15 Aug but 3 members including leader got altitude sickness and down to Rongbuk monastery at 4900m and 16 Aug to Chodzom village and lodge. Back to join others at BC 17 Aug. Four tried to go from BC to 2nd camp, but snow on ground & snow falling; everything was so slippery. Leader got altitude problem at interval camp at 5270m others to 5320m, before 2nd interval camp but where slope gets steeper and thus had to give up. All had altitude sickness so all down to Chodzom 17 Aug evening, 18 Aug to Nyalam. 19th trying to get to Kathmandu was "terrible" because of landslides; needed 120 porters to carry everything including motorbikes 25 km. Expedition left Kathmandu from Tibet 6 Aug, arrived Lhasa 9 Aug, left Lhasa 12 Aug, arrived at BC 15 Aug via New Tingri. They will leave Kathmandu 25 Aug except Bitsch, who leaves 1 Sept. Two members, Krishna Humigain and Lisbeth Zacho, did not go above base camp.
