| Route Notes | C1 at North Col. After C3 occupied, went to BC to rest. 14 May up to ABC; 18th May to C1, 18th to C2, 20th to C3 and summit 21 May. Left 3:00 am NST and top 12:35 pm; already Chinese/Tibetans on top but climbed very slowly and this time could move only slowly. Araki not wearing goggles because he said he could not see with them; 22 May he was snowblind. Yasumura fired him from expedition (though he returned KTM with team) because refused to take leader's advice to wear them and Sherpas said he was dangerous. Oxygen from C2 sleeping to top to C3; Sherpas only climbing from C3 to top to C3. Ito and Mokudai went to ABC only. |
