Route Notes C1 at 7000m North col C2 at 7800m (shared tent with Irish) C3 at 8300m N Face (shared tent with Romanians). Summit bid of 22 May was by Skripko only from this team but with Romanian expedition. Shared tents with Irish at C2 and with Romania at C3 but made summit bid without the Romanians. Skripko left C3 for top 3:00 am Chinese time and got to 8600m, then decided to switch oxygen bottles, but some eye problem from spindrift snow, had to take off goggles to rub frozen snow on eyelashes, and had double vision, after on hour trying to warm eyes and not succeeding, down at 12:00 noon Chinese time, down without goggles because could see only short distance ahead, couldn't see at tent; next morning could see and now wearing goggles down to C1 to sleep. From North Col down, he pushed his toes too hard and previously frostbitten feet sensitive to frostbite, got frostbitten again (one foot has no toes left and that area of amputation - also frostbitten). Skripko had to give up idea of another attempt when he returned to C4 and realized he had no funds left to pay for Sherpa support, no oxygen left and then his frostbitten condition. Bojoukov made no serious attempt to climb the mountain and now too old for it (had considerable experience in USSR days), so all his movements up and down Everest were to test different systems of oxygen and once to go to C2 to look for missing Pole, Krysztof Liszewski. [On 9 June, Bojoukov claimed he reached 8350m on 18 April.]
