| Route Notes | 1st summit bid on 21st did not go above 8300m because helped summiters from Brice's other expedition to descend. Successful attempt partly left at 1:30 am of 30 May and on top 9:00 am, pretty much together. Henkels left expedition about 15 May, Pinson left 26th and so did Seyer and Warner (Warner after having been hit on back of his head on 23rd and wanted to get checkup at home). Oxygen bottles fell after having been dumped in soft snow and snow melted. Oxygen used by 30th summit party: members from C1 (since they had earlier been to C4) all the way in and climbing to all camps to top and down until supplies ran out; Sherpas in C3, to top and down to C3 only. After summiting on 30th, Ricket, Norton, Mahon descended to ABC to sleep; Whetu slept in C2 becase he was carrying big loads down; Brown slept in C1; Sherpas were busy clearing all camps and went down to various camps at various times. Summit Sherpas: Karsang Namgel, Thami, Everest X1, Cho Oyu X3 Lobsang Temba, Khumjung, Everest X3, Cho Oyu X3 Phuru Gyalzen, Pangkoma, 03/10/69, 1st 8000er Lhakpa Thundu, Khumjung, 29/11/63, 1st 8000er Chuldim Dorje, Khumjung, 25/7/63 (brother of Lobsang Temba) Tashi Tenzing, Tibetan, 1st 8000er |
