| Route Notes | BC 5200m at CBC C1 7000m at North Col. Leader Stubbs had stroke and left ABC on April 11; probably left Nepal within 5 days. He is Ok back home. C1 occupied on April 25 at 7000m by all members except Stubbs. Three Sherpas occupied C2 on May 20 (7700m) by Elderkin, Maccrimmon, Chuldin and Pasang; C3 occupied on 21st (8300m) by same members and Sherpas. On 22nd Maccrimmon and Chuldin left C3 at 01:50 hours, reached 8500m at 09:00 hours, waited for an hour; very cold, so descended to C3 where both reached at 02:30 hours. Thompson said that members wanted to try again but sirdar Ang Jangbu refused to stay and also refused to leave equipment and supplies for the members. The reason as told by Thompson was Ang Jangbu had to go to the USA and wanted to return to KTM early. Stubbs left ABC on April 11. He had minor stroke. Probably left Nepal within 5 days. He is ok now. Schaefer left ABC on May 4, left Nepal on 11th. He got bored - he went up to C1. Elderkin and Thompson to leave Nepal on 30th. Stevens to leave Nepal on June 1st. Rest of the members on different dates. Sherpas: Ang Jangbu Sherpa (sirdar) (28-4-1960), Phakding, Chaurikharka, Solu Pasang Dawa Sherpa (1978), Chaurikharka-3, Solu Chuldin Tsheri Sherpa (1966), Namche-9, Khumbu Oxygen used: from 7700m to 8550m and back; Sherpas used from 8300m. |
