| Route Notes | BC at usual BC site C4 at South Col. Summit Day, May 30: Wisedale left South Col at 23:00 hours of May 29. Summit at 11:15 hours of 30th, stayed one hour and fifteen minutes. (While on summit Wisedale proposed marriage to girl friend Joy Simmonds through Sat phone, staying at Hyatt Regency in KTM; Simmonds replied saying that she would be honoured). Wisedale descended to South Col where he reached at 16:00 hours. Next day to Lobuche. He arrived KTM on June 1. Wisedale and his girl friend will leave Nepal on the 7th. On summit before Wisedale was David Hahn and his group, and after him was the team of Alpine Ascents (Tejas, Benetz together with most of their clients and Lhakpa Rita Sherpa). Weather was very nice and clear - no wind till 11:00 hours, after that wind started about 10-15 nautical miles. Weather was bad on 29th (from Wisedale). The first attempt of the expedition was on 20th. The six climbing members; Deysel, Disney, Harris, Ker, Walshaw and Wisedale with Ang Nima Sherpa, Karchin Dawa (Harris was not sure about other Sherpas) left south Col at 21:00 hours. But due to storm all members and other climbers had to retreat. Harris, Walshaw and Wisedale reached on that night up to 8500m (below the balcony and other members to 8200m). They spent night in South Col. Next day to C2 and BC on 22. All members left BC on 25th except Wisedale. Dr. Disney, S. Disney, Harris and Seeff trekked to Lukla. Al Dous, Deysel, Glyn, Ker and Walshaw flew out on helicopter to KTM. Most of the members left Nepal on May 28. Sherpas: Naga Dorjee Sherpa (35), Khumjung VDC-2, Solukhumbu Karchen Dawa Sherpa (38), Khumjung VDC-3, Solukhumbu Dorje Tamang (42), Kapan VDC-1, Kathmandu Ang Mingma Sherpa (33), Yilajung Village, VDC-9, Namche Phurba Sherpa (43), Theso, Namche VDC 4, Solukhumbu Nuru Wangchu Sherpa (24), Khumjung VDC-7, Solukhumbu Mingma Nuru Sherpa (26), Khumjung VDC-1, Solukhumbu Phurba Sona Sherpa (32), Khumjung VDC-8, Solukhumbu Dorjee Sherpa (42) Lumsa, Rapting VDC-7, Solukhumbu 30 May 2003 - Sibusiso Vilane Sibusiso Vilane (of Jagged Globe Ev South led by Robert Anderson), and only black to summit Everest, said Deysel could not get to top because her expedition had strength for only one attempt and no oxygen for second bid. |
