Route Notes BC at Everest BC. While returning from C2 to BC due to wind had to spend night at C1. Left C2 on May 20 at 04:00 hours. Arrived South Col at 15:00 hours. Rested at South Col, then left towards summit at 22:00 hours. When he arrived about 8400m, 500m below Balcony other climbers started descending because there was no route opening for Sherpa team and also started storm, Ang Chhiring too came down to South Col. It was 23:30 hours on 21st. Ang Chhiring and other team members started at 23:40 hours. Ang Chhiring met the first summiter group of Belgians and Sherpas descending at Hillary Step. He reached the summit at 12:00 Noon of 22nd. Stayed about 10 minutes on summit where about 25-30 people were there from both north and south side on the summit. He met son of Ang Rita Chuwang Dorjee who came from north side and Chhiring reached South Col before 16:00 hours. Slept at South Col on 23rd to C2. 24th to BC. Ang Chhiring arrive KTM from Lukla on 28th. He reported the news from the summit via satellite phone to Kantipur office in KTM. He also dug a hole about a foot deep and buried the "Kalash" (holy water Jar for world peace) which was given to him by Rimpoche of Tengboche monastery. He did not use other camps. Ang Chhiring stayed 10 or 11 days at C2, waiting for good weather. Ang Chhiring would like to know, if possible, if he is the first journalist to summit Everest. Ang Chhiring to Jeevan Shrestha - 4 July 2004 Pemba Nuru Sherpa (from Pare near Thami) who was with French Everest South in spr 2003 led by Asselin, was on summit when Ang Chhiring arrived there. The French member he had been within a summit bid turn back, but Pemba Nuru Continued to top and arrived there 15-20 minutes before Ang Chhiring. He took pictures of Ang Chhiring and they descended together to BC, Pemba Nuru gave him some help during the descent and Ang Chhiring tipped him for this at BC.
