Left C4 15th May 9:30 pm for top: all summiters and Troillet left camp together. Troillet the only one without oxygen (he considers it unethical). Troillet turned back at balcony 8450m, where going slowly and did not like being in a queue with tourists, what's going on Everest in commercialization, which means organizers takes nearly everybody with enough money. Others in party went to top from 8:45 pm (Apa) to about 10:00 am. All slept in C4 on 16th. 17th Lambert to C2, Tashi to BC. 18 May all in BC. Lambert: I climbed Everest as a tribute to my father and to make the film about the 1952 and 2002 expeditions. I telephoned my mother when I was safely down in BC and she was "very happy." Everest heroes' descendents return from Everest By Hawley Kathmandu, May 22 (Reuters) - The son of Swiss mountaineer who climbed in 1952 to the highest point on earth attained until then, and a grandson of the Sherpa who accompanied him, returned on May 22 from their successful ascent of Everest together in memory of their ancestors on May 16. Tashi Tenzing said that he "had a clear image of his grandfather at the summit. I saw him before my eyes, and he had a big smile on his face." Tashi Tenzing left on the the summit a photograph of Tenzing Norgay and Raymond Lambert together, which Tashi's mother, a daughter of Tenzing Norgay, had given him to take to the top of the world. While on the summit, Tashi bowed three times to the picture, and thanked Chongolungma, for giving him "beautiful weather" that day and thus letting them succeed. He also telephoned to his mother in Darjeeling with the great news. Lambert said that he had no visions -- "I'm a pragmatic sort of person," he explained. But he did have a warm memory of this father throughout his climb. He wore to the summit a scarf that Tenzing Norgay had given his father (but Lambert did not leave it there). |
