Route Notes May 16 both members started at 22:00 hours from C3. Reached 8300m at about 04:00 hours of May 17. Rested for two hours, then continued. Reached Second Step 8600m at about 13:00 hours. At that point Canning's right crampon got stuck between the rocks and while trying to release it his knee cap got dislocated. Both of them waited there about 2 hours. Then decided to get down. Bate had to support him to get carry down Canning. They reached ABC on 19th. Both members arrived KTM on May 25. Bate will be going to Kharikhola to see the work of a clinic and repair work of one of the oldest monasteries in the areas which he is sponsoring, also the construction work or school at Buspa. He will be accompanied by some of his friends from England including a doctor. Canning will leave for Australia after few days in KTM. He is recovering from knee problem and chest. Bolotov, deputy leader of Ural Everest 2002 Expedition, said the work Mr. Bate did on the mountain was heroic, very brave. He said for Bate and Canning the summit would have been no problem without oxygen.
Accidents Canning got dislocation of knee cap (right leg) and also chest infection
