Route Notes C1 at North Col. Summit party: Miyazaki, Mingma Tshering, Mrs Yoshida and Nawang Syatty left C3 2:00 am (NST). Yoshida and Syatty turned back at 8700m where Mrs Yoshida tired at 12:00 noon while Miyazaki and Mingma Tshering went to top 9:00 am (Mrs Yoshida going very slowly up towards summit). All in C3 to sleep. Oxygen used by 2 members from C1 up all the way, sleeping and climbing, to highest points, down to C2; 2 Sherpas sleeping in C3, up from C3 and sleeping again in C3. 2nd summit party left C3: Mrs Takahashi, Gyalzen (Thami) and another Sherpa. Left C3 midnight May 17/18. Sherpas had to carry oxygen up to Japanese in big trouble (Ishikawa) at 8700m, so Takahashi and they only to 8500m after only 2 hours climb and team gave up. 3rd summit party only 1 to C2 on 20 May and too much wind to go higher and 21 May expedition decided to stop climb.
