Route Notes C1 at North Col. Long elapse between C1 and C2 because strong winds and snowfall. 3 men left C3 for top at 4:00 am (Chinese time) and on top 2:00 pm (11:45 NST) and 6:00 pm and slept there. Used oxygen above 7500m for sleeping and climbing to top and down in ABC but not below ABC; used 5 bottles of 4 litres each. 2 Sherpas used oxygen only from C3 to top to C3 only. On summit Ishikawa "very happy" to be 2 times summiter; was not tired, wanted to go highest. Does not want to climb Everest again. Sherpa summiters: Nima Dorje, Beding, 10/5/55, Everest, etc Tshering Dorje, Beding, 25/10/74, Everest X2, Cho Oyu X2, Manaslu Wilfried Studer, Austria team leader - 27 May 2002 In his descent after summit Ishikawa was carried on the back of a Sherpa from C1 to ABC and ABC to BC with oxygen tube from bottle carried by a Sherpa (Studer saw this himself). Simone Moro, Italian leader - 30 May 2002 Ishikawa's Sherpas told Moro that Ishikawa was carried to top for last 50 meters; was irrational at summit, told Sherpas to leave him there because he wanted to ski down. Moro claims his member, Mario Curnis, who is 26 days younger than Ishikawa, is the oldest person to "climb" to the summit. Russell Brice, NZ leader of International team - 3 June 2002 When Ishikawa went up the ladder on the Second Step, one Sherpa ahead of him pulled him by a short rope while two Sherpas behind him moved his feet on to each rung. Tsutomo Miyazaki, deputy leader of Higuchi's Japanese team - 28 May 2002 His expedition's second summit party (Mrs Takahashi and 2 Sherpas) left C3 at midnight of 17/18 May for top. They reached 8500m, but had to abandon bid for top because Ishikawa was "in big trouble" at 8700m and Sherpas had to carry oxygen up to him.
