Route Notes 1st summit bid left C3 22 May 1:00 am NST: Bale and Carroll both to top at 11:10 am and down to C2. Another summit bid from C3 23 May by Lennie and MacRitchie planned, but Lennie stomach trouble and they went down to ABC. Next try by Atkins and Kirkpatrick planned for 24th but had to help Lennie descend; met him they going up from C2 and had to turn back. 2 June from C3 Atkins, Kirkpatrick and Groark; got "load of snow" and fixed rope buried no turned back at 8400m, came down on 2nd to C3 and waited till 3:00 pm on 3rd and then gave up. Main problem for climbing was too much snowfalling and on mountain. This team not in position to take full advantage of brief periods of good weather. Used oxygen in and above C2 because it was a low camp and had not so many intermediate camps as other teams.
