Route Notes C1 in Western Cwm C3 on Lhotse Face C4 at South Col. 25 May summit party left Col at 10:30 pm: Woodmansees, Hoffman and Leonard not to top: Woodmansees got no higher than 150m above Col (oxygen probably), Hoffman 8400m (had done enough), Leonard 8500m (oxygen problem) and Ferlan at 8700m (left freezing and Pasang Dawa with him). All others from Col to top; all down to C2 or lower same day. Henry Todd had to go up from Col 26 May to help down Ferlan from about 8300m after his oxygen was exhausted and he saw himself in Buddhist temples (become euphoric). Jones wrote reports to Discovery (Internet) full of lies. Henry Todd got so angry with Jones that he threatened to attack him and chased him; Jones tripped while running away and injured himself; helicopter evacuated him to save him from other possible attack from other members. Todd is instituting libel case which noted QC Lord Mackay (up) wants to handle as test case of Internet libel - described Jones as mentally sick. Helicopter called for by Dan Morrison of Quokka "to save his life" but actually called for it before Todd incident, since there had been others: Todd Hoffman had gotten tired of Jones constantly taking photos of him and put his camera behind Jones' tent. Jones screamed that his property had been stolen and attacked Hoffman in the face, injuring him. Henry Todd is not only person suing Discovery and/or Jones: Todd Hoffman probably will; another expedition's leader Bob Hoffman has instructed his lawyers to sue for libel over Jones' false charges of fraud (alleging Bob Hoffman used funds and collected for clean-up activities to pay for climbing - Bob Hoffman kept separate accounts very carefully and spent no clean-up funds on clients climbs). 21 May 2001 - Guy Cotter, New Zealander who led team to Everest also, said was at BC when Todd was assaulted Jones. He did not see the incident himself (he saw a bruised face later) but Todd's BC manager, Ms Melissa Kade, came to Cotter very upset by seeing Todd strike Jones and then Todd's demand that she deny the story (Kade did not go above BC but in Winter 1999 season she went to Ama Dablam on Todd's expedition and summited). 25 Sept 2001 - Inaki Ochoa, climbing leader for Todd on Cho Oyu, talked at Everest BC with Todd's 2000 Everest team member Scott Markey, who swore that Todd did not hit Jones. Markey witnessed the episode and is "absolutely honest." 28 Sept 2001 - Patrick Kenny, one of Todd's summiters, said he saw the Todd-Jones incident. Todd did not hit Jones, but when Jones stumbled and fell, Todd sat on him and Jones got hurt as he turned his head from side to side.
