Route Notes C3 at Lhotse Face C3 at South Col. Bate to South Summit and turned back because not going fast enough (cough, 1 Sherpa turned back at Balcony, so less oxygen available). Left C2 at 10:00 pm on 15 May, at South Summit 7:30-8:00 am and summiters on top 10:40 am. Only people to top on 16 May. Spent night at C4. 17 May to C2 and 18 May to BC. Michelle Santilhano left team 13 May - difficult person and when got only to C3, blamed others (personality conflict, she thought), rather than her own inability to go higher. Came to KTM where she "bad mouthed" Bate and their Sherpas. She tried to join other expeditions (such as Christine Boskoff's), but did not succeed. LO told Ministry not to permit her to go higher and she returned to South Africa. Bate is in midst of attempting all the Seven Summits in 12 months. Aconcagua climbed in Jan 2000, Everest tried 16 May 2000, McKinley early June, Kilimanjaro in July, Elbrus in July, Carstensz in September and Vinson in Nov.
Accidents Bristow got clot in leg and was evacuated to KTM
