Route Notes
2025-11-03 18:22 (CET) ~ Our team has received a catastrophic report in the past few hours that our colleague and good friend (Paolo), a former Oroboros team member and good friend (Marco), and Nepalese guide Padam fell victim to an avalanche accident during their expedition in Nepal.
The Dreamers Destination team had spent the night in Na village (4183m) before heading to the Yalung Ri base camp (c. 5000 m). A massive avalanche hit the team on their ascent just below the summit of Yalung Ri (5630m; Rolwaling, Nepal). The avalanche struck at around 9:30 am on Monday 2025-11-03. The graphic designer, IT specialist and photographer Paolo Cocco of Italy (working with Oroboros Instruments) could only be recovered dead by expedition leader Phurba Tsering Sherpa. Even days after the accident, Marco Di Marcello (a mountain guide with Italian and Canadian nationality), and Sherpa Padam Tamang are still missing.
From Ministry file:
Paolo Cocco died avalanche on 3 Nov while acclimatization climb from BC on Yalung Ri. His body recovered on 4 Nov. Padam Tamang and Marco Di Marcello missing on same avalanche on 3 Nov. Heli rescue and surface rescue attempts failed to locate the missing climbers due to bad snow conditions – rock hard and deep snow.
