Route Notes BC south-southeast of summits C1 at eastern extension of SE Ridge High point at SE Ridge. Gaurishankar Expedition 2008, led by David Goettler - 6 Nov 2008 The team had very little information about Gaurishankar before going there, so they were on uncharted terrain as far as they were concerned. After making BC on 12 October at 4600m, on the 15th the two Germans moved from there across the Nolakibug Glacier, which was shaped like a bowl with the south side open, up the south face of the East Ridge to 5500m on the eastern extension of the SE Ridge. This was to be the site for their C1, but they returned to BC that day. On the 17th they returned to 5500m, pitched C1 and slept there two nights. On the 18th they moved 500m along the ridge's "many ups and downs" for a vertical gain of 150m. This completed their acclimatization, and on the 19th they descended to BC. On the 22nd they returned to C1. The next day they carried their tent and gear west along the north side of this eastern extension of the SE Ridge, which forms the border with Tibet, to 6000m, a distance of two kilometers. On the 24th they fixed 200m of rope up the small face that leads to the actual start of the SE Ridge at a point 6333m high. They then descended to BC to rest for a few days. They resumed their climb on the 29th, when they again occupied C1. They moved to C2 the next day. On 3 October at 8:20 am they climbed the small face to point 6333m and followed the SE Ridge to 6400m. At 1:00 pm they turned around here: the cornices ahead were too dangerous for a two-man team to try to negotiate. They were back in BC at 6:30 pm with all their gear, tents and rope.
