Route Notes From SST FB page: Rescue Mission of Carlos Soria: Successful Evacuation from Mt Dhaulagiri !! In a successful rescue mission, renowned Spanish a mountaineer Carlos Soria has been safely evacuated from Mt Dhaulagiri after sustaining leg injuries during his summit push. Soria, accompanied by Sito Carcavilla and a team of Sherpas, encountered the mishap at an altitude of 7650 meters on May 16. Upon receiving the message via radio from the Sherpas, immediate efforts were mobilized to evacuate Soria from the high camp. A team of skilled Sherpas, including Mikel Sherpa, and Sito Carcavilla assisted him in descending to a safe point at Camp III. Meanwhile, the ground handling teams in Pokhara and Kathmandu coordinated a series of emergency arrangements, including the deployment of a helicopter with a long line, updates on weather conditions, hospital preparations, and the crucial addition of expert manpower who were well-equipped and acclimatized. 17 May, in a display of solidarity, Polish climbers Oswald Rodrigo Pereria and Bartek Ziemski, who had previously conquered Annapurna and Dhaulagiri as with SST, without the use of oxygen cylinders, volunteered to join the rescue mission. A helicopter was dispatched from Kathmandu, transporting both climbers, along with essential gear, oxygen, and supplies, to Camp II at an elevation of 6200 meters. As Carlos Soria's team descended to Camp III, the group from Camp II began their ascent to join them. By the evening of May 17, the teams converged at Camp Ill, providing necessary assistance to Soria. The following morning (18 May), after a challenging effort, Carlos successfully reached Camp II. With the standby helicopter at the ready, flew to Camp II, airlifting Soria and returning to Kathmandu. He was immediately transported to the HAMS Hospital for further treatment. Isidoro (Dr), a dedicated member of Soria's team, has remained by Soria's side, offering continuous support and liaising with medical professionals. The latest reports indicate that Carlos is recovering well, and plans are underway to arrange for his transfer back to Spain to continue his treatment. The successful rescue operation would not have been possible without the unwavering cooperation and support of all those involved. We and the entire climbing community extends its gratitude to everyone who contributed to this mission. Carlos Soria's indomitable spirit and strength in the face of adversity are a testament to his remarkable character. As both a valued member of Seven Summit Treks and a cherished family member of the climbing community, his recovery is eagerly awaited by all.
