Route Notes Approach: Helicopter to BC BC 02/01 4600m C1 06/01 5850m C2 07/01 6200m (only tagged) HPt 07/01 6200m by Barmasse and Goettler. Climb abandoned due to high winds. Acclimatization in the Khumbu (Lobuche East) from 07/12 to 27/12 (Goettler only) and Barmasse joined him on 14/12. After the Khumbu they spent a few days in Kathmandu and flew to DHA1 BC on 02/01. There was a good weather window at the beginning of January (when Txikon and his team summited Manaslu); however, the wind never abated enough on Dhaulagiri. The climbing conditions however were extremely good. Hard surface, no deep snow or blue ice. The conditions on the mountain were so good that Goettler is convinced that DHA1 is very good to climb in winter. The problem on this expedition were the strong winds. Rubbish: There was a lot of rubbish at BC from the Autumn 2022 expeditions which was probably due to the very bad weather that set in at the beginning of October 2022. Apparently 23 mules had died during the bad weather and their corpses are still lying below the French Col and had not been cleared away. Goettler and Barmasse also found two dead Nepali trekking guides who were with a South Korean trekking group in autumn 2022. They contacted the ministry and asked them to remove the dead bodies. Team left BC on 16/01 by helicopter. Oxygen: Not taken, not used.
