| Route Notes | Seven Summit Treks Dhaulagiri expedition was a combination of several independent teams (1-2 climbers each). Seven Summits provided transportation, base camp facilities and various levels of high altitude support (oxygen, high-altitude porters, tents, etc) as required and contracted for by each team. The individual accounts for each team are given below: Rosa Fernandez (Spain) Appr: Beni->Khamla->Boghara->Italian BC->BC Camps: BC(11/04,4600m),C1(18/04,5600m),C2(23/04,6500m),C3(17/05,7300m),xxx Left: 21/05/2018 Hired: 1 Term: Abandoned at 7300m due to high winds Expedition abandoned due to high winds and bad weather forecast. Fernandez descended together with Carlos Soria’s team and Celikovic from Serbia. Oxygen: not taken, not used Dragan Celikovic (Serbia) Appr: Beni->Khamla->Boghara->Italian BC->BC Camps: BC(11/04,4600m),C1(18/04,5600m),C2(23/04,6500m),C3(17/05,7300m),xxx Left: 21/05/2018 Hired: 1 Term: Abandoned at 7300m due to high winds Expedition abandoned due to high winds and bad weather forecast. Celikovic descended together with Carlos Soria’s team and Fernandez from Spain. Oxygen: taken and used from C2 to high point to C2 by Celikovic Debasish Biswas (India) Appr: Beni->Khamla->Boghara->Italian BC->BC Camps: BC(11/04,4600m),C1(18/04,5600m),C2(23/04,6500m),C3(17/05,7300m), xxx(19/05,7900m) Left: 21/05/2018 Hired: 1 Term: Abandoned at 7900m due to high winds Biswas had reached C3 together with Carlos Soria's team, Dragan Celikovic and Rosa Fernandez. On 18/05 it was very windy and while the others descended to BC Biswas remained at C3 hoping for better weather. On 18/05 he started from C3 at 10 pm. He climbed up the last couloirs and gained another hump. However, the winds did not abate and he decided to turn back at 12:30 pm. He descended to C3 and on 20 May he returned to BC. Oxygen: taken and used from C3 to high point to C3 by Biswas Sherpa: Pasang Gyalgen Sherpa Inigo Castinyera (Spain) Appr: Beni->Khamla->Boghara->Italian BC->BC Camps: BC(11/04,4600m),C1(18/04,5600m),C2(23/04,6500m),C3(17/05,7300m), xxx(18/05,7500m) Left: 21/05/2018 Hired: 1 Term: Abandoned at 7500m due to high winds and no fixed rope Reached 7500m on 18/05. Returned as no fixed rope, decided was too dangerous. Combination of lack of fixed rope and weather conditions. Waldemar Kowalewski (Poland) Appr: Beni->Khamla->Boghara->Italian BC->BC Camps: BC(11/04,4600m),C1(18/04,5600m),C2(23/04,6500m),C3(28/04,7300m),xxx Term: Abandoned at 7300m due to fatal accident of Laterra Reached height of 7300m on 28/04. Not established why he returned to Simone Laterra who had remained at 6800m. However upon return to the tent, Laterra was blown off the mountain whilst inside the tent and was killed. |
