Route Notes Gavan initially planned to climb Everest from South. The avalanche on Everest occured whilst he was acclimatizing on Lobuche East (18 April). Gavan remarked that most of the teams apparently stopped usually much before the true summit of Lobuche East). Then he was transfered to Dhaulagiri I. (They arrived on Lobuche East BC on 17 April and summited Lobuche East on the 19 April and left BC on the 25 April when the news of the season cancellation on Everest south side occured). On Dhaulagiri I, Alex Gavan spent 1 night at C1, then 3 nights at C2, from C2 he planned to reach and install C3, then to go down to BC. During the way between camps however he didn't feel in a good shape. Morever his weather forecast sources announcing zero snow conditions were completely wrong, the mountain being heavily covered with snow. During his second night at C2, Alex Gavan begun to analyze his chances for the summit and decided to abandon the day after. The day after, he was heli-rescued shortly above C1 as the helicopter could not reach him at C2.
