Route Notes One member, Ron Rutland, left the climb only six days after their arrival at BC and got no higher than C1. He was 66 years old, and he had exhausted his supply of strength. He left on 10 April. His only teammate, Adele Pennington, stayed on. She had two Sherpas with her, but she said they were not really helpful. They went with her as far as C3, but they didn't want to go any higher because, they said, they were tired. Pennington herself went 200m above C3 on 5 May and then gave up the attempt. She descended on the 5th to C1 the same day and was back in BC on the 6th. She left BC on the 14th.
