Route Notes During summit attempt the high point team spent 2 nights at C3. It was very windy and after the second day they decided to descend to base camp, where they were waiting for better weather. On 7 October the Sherpas ascended to C2 to dig out the rope from underneath the snow. When they reached C2 they saw that one of the tents containing four downsuits was blown away. Through their binoculars, the team at base camp also saw that two tents were missing at C3. As there did not seem to be a break in the wind, the team decided to abandon the expedition on 10 October. They left BC on 11 October by helicopter. Martinez reached C3 on 1 Oct. He was not intending to go higher as he was employed as the expedition doctor. Salas reached C1 several times, but he never got higher as he was not coping well with the altitude. Tena stayed at BC; he never intended to climb as he was BC manager.
