| Route Notes | On 30 April, Go, Hyun, Kim Mi-Gon, Dawa Finchok and Pasang Ngima Sherpa left C3 at 10 pm. The weather was windy and cloudy. The Korean team was the first one to start from C3 and they were also fixing ropes on the route. Hyun turned around from about 7800m as he was slow and tired. The team ran out of ropes at about 7900m. Same time other climbers reached there and they continued to climb. Kim Mi-Gon joined the other climbers for about an hour and he saw his fellow climbers are not following them. So he went back to his team and slowly started climbing together. Weather became very bad snowfall and complete white-out. Go, Kim Mi-gon, Dawa Finchok and Pasang Ngima Sherpa reached to the top at 6:30 pm on 1 May. Another handicapped Korean climber Kim Hong-Bin also reached to the top together. They stayed on summit for about 10 minutes. The summit was cloudy and dark. It was a long climb. Kim Mi-Gon, Dawa Finchok and Pasang Ngima reached C3 between 2-3:30 am on 2 May. Their C3 tent was completely damaged. They shared the tent of Kim Hong-Bin. At C3 they realized that Go did not reach C3. They did not know that Go had a fall on descending. While descending one of the Sherpas of Kim Hong-Bin slipped and fell on Go and he tumbled down about 20m. He lost his backpack, gloves and walkie-talkie. It was dark and cloudy. So he spent about 7 hours in open bivouac at about 7800m. In the morning. Go found his walkie-talkie few meters away from his bivouac place. He talked to C3 and Pasang Ngima came to help him to go to C3. They reached C3 at about 11:30 am. Go's fingers were very cold and in bad shape. Go had rest in C3 with two Sherpas and descended to C2 around 4:30 pm where Kim Mi-Gon was waiting for them. On 3 May the team descended to BC. The Indian expedition doctor treated Go's fingers. He was flown out from BC in helicopter to Kathmandu with Fojtik on 4 May. High point for other members of the expeditions are: Ha and Ms. Kim Nida stayed in BC. Jin climbed up to C2. Kim Kyung-Keun climbed half way between BC and C1. Kim Mi-Gon left BC on 5 May and arrived Kathmandu on 6 May, rest of the members left BC on 6 May and arrived Kathmandu on 10 May. Sherpas: Dawa Finchok, 16/7/82, Lamabagar-3, Dolakha Pasang Ngima, 11/10/87 (25/6/2044), Yaphu-9 For both of the Sherpas it was first 8000m expedition. |
