Route Notes BC at normal site C1 at NE Col C2 on NE Ridge C3 on NE Ridge. The summit party were Greher, Hauer, Mueller, Robl, Schauenberg, Soell, Stitzinger, von Melle, Phu Dorje Sherpa and Singi Lama. They set out for the top at 2:00 am on 18 May in cold and windy weather. Schauenberg turned back at 7500m, Phu Dorje's cold toes at 7700m sent him down to C3, and Singi's toes also became very cold when he reached 8000m and he joined Phu Dorje in the retreat to C3 (both Sherpas had slight frostbite). The other seven members persevered and summited at 4:15 pm. They had moved rapidly and at 2:00 pm were at the top of the snow slopes leading to the bottom of the small couloir that tops out at the final summit ridge. But then there was a lot of snow in the couloir (in places knee-deep), and it was 4:00 pm when they got to the ridge. They turned to C3 to sleep and were in BC at 8:00 pm on the 19th. Non-summiting members: Ninke reached C2 on 16 May, became worried about the strong winds, went down to C1 on the 17th and to BC on the 19th. He stayed in BC until the climb was finished. Schauenberg was in summit party from C3 on 18 May, reached 7500m, was cold and tired, retreated to C1, joined his friend Ninke in descending to BC on the 19th and waiting there for the others to finish their climb.
