Route Notes Biv 1 near NE Ridge above NE Col C2 near NE Ridge. Bad weather delayed making biv at 6300m (1 meter fresh snow on 19th). Took tents, etc. at 6300m and moved it to 7200m (Agostinis down immediately to BC but other 3 to 7200m). On 10th May other 3 members to BC also because of snow and wind storm. Waited in BC for better weather. Now Agostinis had to return to work, so other 3 left BC and went to 6300m on 15 May. 16th Vuerich down to BC with throat infection; Benet and Meroi to C2. 17th both left C2 2:00 am and on top 1:40 pm; from 7000m Benet broke trail. Down to 7200m in lightning and fresh snow at 6:00 pm. They had stayed on NE Ridge all the way up, but down took traverse used by most teams because of lightning danger on ridge greater than on face - half an hour's climb up from false summit along ridge to true summit. 18 May at BC at 10:00 hours. Italian Dhaulagiri I in Spring 2006, led by Romano Benet Inaki Ochoa said on 28 March 2008 that he had no doubt about this team's Dhaulagiri I summit claim. He had seen their pictures, which clearly show that they summited. (Their claim seemed to be disputed in an article in the Italian climbing magazine, Alp Wall, as per their email to me of 29 Nov 2006 which is included in this expedition file).
