Route Notes Chhuboche is north-northeast of Pisang Peak, a well-known trekking peak. The approach march to BC began at the end of the a bus ride from Kathmandu to Besisahar on the Marshyangdi River and north along the river to Bhulbhule. From there they trekked along the river to Jagat, Dharapani, and still following the river, west-northwest to Koto. Here they left the river and went north, up the Naar Khola to Naar village, where they left the khola and trekked north from Naar to their BC site at the foot of West Face of Chhuboche. They had left Kathmandu on 6 November and arrived at BC on the 12th. By now Wrightson had stomach trouble and Foster had a chest infection. On the 14th, Jackson and Pasang climbed up to point 5610m on Chhuboche's NW Ridge. They had left BC at 7:30 am, traversed the NW Face at 4800m, moved up to a col at 5300m and from there followed the ridge to the 5610m summit at 12:30 pm. They returned to BC at 3:30 pm. On the 16th, Jackson, Wrightson, Pasang and Tendi Wangya went to their main objective, Chhuboche's West Face. They left BC at 5:00 am and climbed to 5000m up the face to a col, where they then followed the SE Ridge to the summit at 12:00 noon. They returned to BC at 4:00 pm. The face was covered with powder snow, which made progress very difficult, but they managed to scale it to the ridge. However, the ridge was no easy walk to the top: there was knee-deep snow in patches, and other sections where they had to crawl up. The Nepalese government assigns an altitude of 5602m to Chhuboche, but Jackson said several GPS readings gave it as 5640m. [Note: There is a slightly higher peak of 5627m just south-southeast of the 5602m peak given on the HMG-Finn map.] They left BC on 18 November and followed their approach route back to Bhulbhule and Besisahar.
