Route Notes BC at Chinese Base Camp ABC at normal spot C1 at normal spot High point at plateau between C1 & C2. Neither Ingio nor Joseba can remember any exact dates nor do they have any records of them. Thus my account is more of an outline of their expedition. Joseba and Ingio made many trips to C1. On their 3rd trip to C1 they spent the night and tried to go to C2. They turned back above the ice cliff at 6900m because Ingio was having trouble breathing and felt weak. They returned to ABC that night at 8:00 pm (April 26-28th?). They went to see the Colombian doctor (Carlos Rodriguez). The next morning Dr. Rodriquez determined Ingio had mild pulmonary edema and put him on Diamox for 4 days (no oxygen). Between April 28th-May 7? they made more carries to C1 and slept there with no problems. They attempted to go to C2 one more time with Carlos Soria but turned back 500 ft out of C1. Due to the heat, this foray with Soria also has an unknown date. The last time Ingio and Joseba went to C1 was to help bring down Mari Abrego and Agustin Lopez, they think on May 9th they explained to me they abandoned their climb because they ran out of time. They ran out of time because 1) waiting for Ingio to recover from pulmonary edema, 2) they were slow to acclimatize, 3) when they learned Mari Abrego and Agustin Lopez were in trouble, they waited at ABC (waiting to be called in on the rescue). Ingio and Joseba had burnt faces as they forgot their sunscreen one day going to C1.
