Route Notes Gatts saved Leuprecht on 19th as he was exhausted and on 28th two Gatts brought Obermueller down to C1 and Maruna, Gruber and Frisch and some of Ebner's Sherpas and 2 of Gatt members and high porters carried Obermueller down to ABC same day and night, 12 km distance. 2 days rest for this team at ABC. 24th from ABC: 25th C2; leader split group and 26th Ebner, Mrs Ebner, Gruber and Huber to C4 while Frisch, Maruna and Schmidhofer spent day in C2. 27th Huber and Gruber to summit in little cold but slight wind while Ebner went down [with Gatt team]. 27th Frisch, Maruna and Schmidhofer up to C4 for summit bid but no sleeping bag in camp so had to stay without any; temperature -23 inside tent and 40 mph wind. 28th still tried for top but Sherpa said too cold to try; next to 7800m and 7950m with 2 Sherpas and down to C2 same day. Leaders splitting was a mistake based on ego. 28th night heavy snowstorm and winds flattened tents. 29th to C1 and snow daily thereafter.
Accidents Knezicek bronchitis; one Sherpa mumps at BC
