| Route Notes | Three Mexicans climbed together while European climbed individually. Mexicans: C1 6400m - 22 April C2 7700m - 28 April Summit from C2 at midnight of 2nd and on top 1:30 pm (Pena to 8050m only); he [Jorge] saw many peaks and Tibetan plateau, but not Everest because more direction clouds. Europeans: C2 6,00m - 21 April C2 7200m - 1 May C3 7700m - 3 May 8100m and reached on 5 May by Kaluza alone. Then got frostbitten toes in very cold windy storm after 3 days in C3; Rasmussen to 7900m. Delorenzo from C2 to top alone direct on 6 May (Loretan party doubt this ascent as he said he could not remember whether it was rock or snow). Amical Germans also don't believe this claim since "he spent 5 days in C1 smoking cigarettes and not in shape to go directly to summit later"; "surely not to summit" they said 14 May 1996. Team used 1 Sherpa with Europeans to C3. |
