Route Notes Strynoe separated from Vaccari, et al above ABC, arriving first at 6000m campsite. Had 3 tents only and a German had to try to put up one of them but did it improperly and wind took this tent away. 7 May left C5 at 4:30 am alone and arrived at top at 6:30 pm and should have gone down but didn't and thinks he reached highest point in last light - sat down very confused and very tired but now believes he reached [only] 8153m - peak/snow dome. Had skis and video with him; used skis only "few seconds" from dome - saw no flags. That night at about 7900m stopped descent because of crevasses and spent night stamping feet; no moonlight; waiting all night standing and started descent as soon as dark light came and reached C5 in morning and slept all day and all night there. 9th got more and more tired and slept in NZer's tent at about 6600m. Reached 5400m 10th about 5:00 pm. NZ expedition member 27 May: Strynoe lucky to be alive as result of help down by NZer. Vaccari tried to go up to C3 on 7 May, stopped at 7100m because was alone and had to be in ABC on 8th and very tired trying to carry heavy load.
Accidents Sherpa sick (stomach trouble); Canni abcessed tooth; Gruzza kidney problem; Strynoe frostbitten 2 fingers
