| Route Notes | High point at 100m below plateau. 10 Oct starts for top; at 8000m Sherpas, who were ahead, stopped because dangerous to continue in strong wind & very cold temperature (-40 degrees) - danger from frostbite. Next day no wind but French tried. On 15th decided climb finished because too difficult for older members, Escoffier too slow with limp from '89 accident & 2 youngest members had no previous Himalaya experience. Besides felt weather becoming colder & windier. Good snow conditions, no avalanches. |
