Route Notes From Thami camped progressively closer to Cho Oyu on 3 successive nights: 26th Oct at Arye; 27th midway between true Kangchung and true Dzasampa at 5400m; 28th to base of mountain at 6000m where left a tent and a Sherpa cook and from here started actual climb moving at tent up as progressed. Went to true summit (saw Everest and Lhotse as approached top and then clouds came). Used fixed left by season's earlier teams and even found foot prints (perhaps Japanese) not covered by snow more than 2 weeks later. Went to summit 3:30 pm and 1st to BC 1 hr after dark; Thami on 3rd. Thami to top to Thami: 9 days Climbed on trekking permit only.
