Route Notes 5th May Stadler & Wuersch at 1 am from C2 to top; weather good but very cold - 3 others were with them but turned back at 7400m & 7900m because of cold & long distance to top. 8th May second summit party but stopped at different altitudes, highest at 8000m in windy snowstorm. 14th May Neuhuber C1 to C3 & 15th to top alone 12 others turned back. Neuhuber hadn't had to make most of trail & wasn't exhausted. Guichard with 4 Germans on 15th May up from C3 & only he claimed top in bad weather. Miss Kopp's account of Tibetan police confrontation with German expedition is attached to German's expedition route notes. Ibanez - 15 May 93 Large Swiss Cho Oyu expedition complained to Chinese about teams coming across from Nepal and therefore Chinese army men caught hold of Germans and Basques. This action by Swiss legally correct but not in the spirit of mountaineers. Swiss a big commercial expedition. Taiwanese sirdar threatened Ibanez's one climbing Sherpa (Pemba from Khumjung) he would be [arrested] if he continued on Cho Oyu (Pemba denies this).
